What’s it for?
The active ingredient in truffles is psilocybin, which has been scientifically proven to have a very positive effect on those suffering from depression by vastly alleviating symptoms and even ‘curing’ depression completely. Sweden, New Zealand, Germany, Australia and Switzerland are amongst some of the countries that have approved psilocybin to treat depression.
I have personally used psilocybin when I had severe panic attacks related to PTSD, and I microdosed until I had therapy and then again after therapy, until I recovered. It helped me enormously. There have been no trials that I know of for using this to treat PTSD but I intutively knew that it would be good for me, and so I used it with great results.
Where to Buy
Truffles are legal in The Netherlands and you can buy them online and also in Smart Shops.
How to Store
One 15 gram pack of truffles will last a while for microdosing. The only problem is that they turn moldy green VERY quickly, within 2 days. To avoid having to throw most of the pack away when this happens, slice the truffles and dry them. I use a dehydrator machine, which can also be used for drying fruit slices as delicious healthy snacks. It’s important that all of the moisture is taken out of the truffle to avoid them getting moldy. 3 hours at 45 degrees is about right. The dried truffles can then be stored in a clean glass jar and it’s good to put one of those little silicone capsules in the jar, which you can find in medication bottles where they are used to keep pills dry.
Normal Dosage
The photos here are of dried truffle slices. Eating the larger amount shown in the photo above would give you some light visuals, and would allow you to have a gentle experience and be able to connect with spirit for insights and guidance. It is always recommended to start with a smaller amount and then have some more after an hour or so, if you feel you’d like to have a deeper experience. People react differently, so what one person can’t feel might make the next person have a lot of visuals. For larger doses than this, always have a trusted friend sit with you. A reassuring hug during an intense experience is a beautiful thing. Going through an intense experience alone is only something that someone with a LOT of experience should be doing. I say that with people’s safety in mind. Being grounded and feeling safe is important.
Microdosing Dosage
The photo of the small amount above is a microdose amount. You will not have any visuals at all. They only thing you will feel is slightly/noticeably relaxed, depending on your existing level of health and energy e.g. someone with PTSD may feel nothing at all, even for the first few days.
Take a microdose amount for 3 days, then don’t have any at all for a day. Then alternate taking every two days. This is a starting guide and will depend on you, as to how regularly you should take and for how long. Trust your intuition and also ask the medicine.
Intention / Prayer
Truffles are an intelligent plant medicine spirit. Your intention with this medicine means a lot. Before taking, set your intention and thank the spirit. Focus on the positive outcome and not what you want to resolve. Here is a nice example of a strong intention:
- Hold the medicine in the palm of your hand and take a few slow, calm, deep breaths in and out.
- Open your heart and connect with this spirit with gratitude.
- Say something like “I ask you to help me find calm and peace. To slow down my mind and bring myself back into my body. To be balanced and confident and happy, which is my natural, true state.”
- Then say something like this “I am grateful for you and thank you for your healing”
Nutty Taste
Truffles have a nutty/mushroom taste. When eating dried truffles, gently chew them well before swallowing, and drink some water.
You may find that truffles make you feel thirsty so keep hydrated with plenty of water.
Avoid orange juice (vitamin C) for a few hours. Some say it enhances the effect but personally I think it cancels the effect. In any case just avoid it for a few hours.
